Summer Vacation

A vacation is defined as an extended period of recreation, esp. one spent away from home or in traveling. As a teacher, I find it humorous when someone says to me, "it must be nice to be on vacation for three months!" Really? Vacation? Have you met me? I have two boys, a 5 year old and a 3 year old. Summer vacation for me has been spent potty training for the second or third time, curriculum writing, staff development, planning play dates to entertain my children and managing to do some house work (even though my husband might disagree with the later.) It is now about half way through July and I would like nothing more than to return to work tomorrow! I know it sounds like I might have lost my mind. Who says they WANT to go back to work, especially when you still have 4 more weeks of "vacation"? As I sat talking with a fellow summer break teacher yesterday, we both agreed that summers can get long and boring. When you love your job and what you do, time away makes you appreciate it even more. Since I still have some time on my hands, I have started working on a project for teachers. I am currently gathering websites that are wonderful to teach the TEKS to our students. Throughout the school year, I would love feedback from fellow teachers of things that you use in your classrooms. I am looking for games, power points and any other useful tools found online. Thanks for sharing any of your favorites with me!
